Saint James
Description
The story of the famous Saint James brand originated in Saint-Pierre-de-Martinique in 1765 thanks to the tutor of the monastery, Edmond Lefebvre. In the greatest secrecy, he developed a unique recipe for an alcoholic beverage of high quality. In 1902, the island suffered a disaster: a volcanic eruption destroyed the town of Saint Pierre and partially destroyed the monastery.
Saint James rum found a new life thanks to Paulin Lambert, a negociant from Marseille, who bought several distilleries in Martinique at the end of the 19th century. He made revolutionary changes in technology and design. Rum was bottled in square bottles that were less likely to break during transportation on ships. The distillery itself was modernized with the latest innovative technologies.
